DISCOGRAPHY

Paul has played in many bands over the years - here's some information about a few of them.

CENTUARIS

"This is where it all started back in the early 70’s at Long Eaton Grammar School, just outside of Nottingham, UK. Along with Kevin Green, Tony Berrington and John Lord, Centuaris was formed. How little did I know the huge effect this was going to have on my life from that day until this, and hopefully beyond".

CAPTAIN COOK'S DOG

"This was when things started to get serious. We’d all left school now and it was time to change things - firstly the name, Centuaris had to go. It soon became obvious that this drumming business was to be more than just a hobby - it was going to rule my life, and everything revolved around the band. Captain Cook's Dog started to get noticed and we got a manager and some good gigs eg.The Marquee in London - not to be sniffed at for a band of seventeen year olds. Unfortunately I have no recordings from this period. We did some home stuff but I don’t know what happened to them. The recording bug comes later!".

THE GT'S

"This was our offering to the Punk movement. “I Want to be a Millionaire” not really what it was all about but what the hell - we didn’t care".

THE FAVOURITES

"Nearly into the the 80’s - bring on the Power Pop bands! The Favourites was basically the joining of two bands - Plummet Airlines and The GT’s. I was the last to join. The band was based in London where we did most of our work, there were a couple of singles released - 'SOS' I suppose is the most memorable".

ENGLISH ELECTRIC

"After the Favourites I didn’t do much for a while. I did a single with Kevin from the Favourites under the name The XL5’s ('Theme to Fireball XL5') and I had a year doing cabaret with a band called White Plains, THEN I got a phone call!!! A guitarist called Alan Fearn was putting a band together - he had a keyboard player and needed a drummer, bassist and vocals. The eventual line up became English Electric and we embarked on a massive writing, rehearsing and recording regime which was to last for the next ten years".

BLUE TRAIN

"This is what all that hard slog was for - A RECORD DEAL! By now we were down to a four piece using sequenced bass (guess who’s no stranger to a click track!) and it’s off to Los Angeles, California USA to start recording the album 'THE BUSINESS OF DREAMS'. The first single of that album , 'All I Need Is You' reached #46 in the US Top 100 and spent 13 weeks in the charts. For the next year and a half it was 'limo here', 'plane there', interviews all over the place and the odd can of beer of course just to relieve the boredom. I could fill several web sites with Blue Train stuff but not much point so I’ve joined together some TV stuff (yes, it IS 'Baywatch' using the single) and edited down a couple of tracks - enjoy".

D.I.N.

"D.I.N was a little project that Simon (Blue Train) and I put together. For a while we had fancied the idea of doing something totally dance orientated, and we eventually decided on the classic 'Young Hearts Run Free' and set about the arrangement with Simon handling the instrumentation and I programmed the drums and percussion. Originally we just recorded the one track as a four track demo but we were so pleased with the final arrangement that we decided to go into the studio and record it properly. Natasha Fox provided the vocal and the whole thing was engineered and produced by Mark Gamble. Mark also did a 12” remix which became the B side of a 12” white label pressing. The song was played on Radio One by Steve Wright - heard by 10 million listeners."

MONEY TALKS

"This was the last band that I played with - an excellent club band with the potential to be so much more. Unfortunately due to other commitments certain members of the band found it increasingly harder to dedicate the time and energy needed to maintain the standard that we had set, let alone move up to another level, and as a result the inevitable happened and the band split".
